How is High Blood Pressure Treated?
High blood pressure is a chronic disease, which means that once you have it, it usually lasts a lifetime. The good news is that high blood pressure can be treated and managed so that you can continue to live your life the way you want.
Your doctor may recommend healthy lifestyle changes, prescribe medication, or both. It is important to carefully follow your doctor’s instructions and take your medicine as prescribed in order to maintain a healthy blood pressure and to prevent serious complications, such as heart attack or stroke.*
Good health
One method of treating and controlling high blood pressure that your doctor may recommend is making healthy changes to your lifestyle. Some people are able to successfully lower their blood pressure by making the following healthy changes to their lifestyle:
- Eat a diet low in salt and fat and rich in fruits and vegetables.
- Limit alcohol intake.
- Maintain a healthy weight. Lose weight if you are overweight.
- Get regular physical activity. (Always consult your doctor before starting an exercise program.)

4 Foods That Lower Blood Pressure
Foods that Lower Blood Pressure #1 — Cereals
Certain cereals that are high in fiber and low in sugar can help you lower your blood pressure. If you eat breakfasts, skip the bacon and eggs as often as possible and instead opt for high-fiber cereals like Cheerios and Fruit-n-Fiber.
Foods that Lower Blood Pressure #2 — Fish
Fatty fish can also lower blood pressure, but because many of today’s fish contain toxins like mercury, doctors often advise not to eat too much fish in any given week. There are, however, fish oil pills that can help you get all of the benefits of eating fish without the harmful toxins.

: Over the Counter Natural Cures: Take Charge of Your…
The first thing that struck me reading this book is that the author recommends ten specific supplements as remedies for some of the most serious health problems we face today such as cancer, diabetes, heart disease, stroke, obesity, and insomnia. When I say specific, I mean that the name of the brand is given, the dosage, where to buy it, and a lab certified Certificate of Analysis is also included on the book website for each one.
I found this to be a stark contrast to other books on nutritional supplements which give a lot of vague information and leave the reader more confused than before they read the book.
The next thing that impressed me is that the efficacy of each supplement is verified by science based evidence rather than hype and unsubstantiated claims. Shane Ellison’s background as a pharmaceutical chemist and scientist makes him uniquely qualified to write about supplements which can effectively replace prescription drugs like statins, antibiotics, prostate drugs, sleep aids, blood pressure meds, and especially anti-cancer treatments like chemo and radiation. Throughout the book he includes numerically indexed references to the science studies which verify his claims. Listing of references is found in the endnotes section of the book.

Garlic
“If we were to design a drug that had perfect properties according to what we know about heart disease and associated risk factors, we couldn’t improve on garlic,” says Amanda McQuade-Crawford, herbalist and director of the Ojai Center of Phytotherapy in Ojai, Calif. Regular use of garlic is associated with the prevention of cardiovascular disease, she explains. Garlic raises protective HDLs (high-density lipoproteins), while it lowers harmful LDLs (low-density lipoproteins) and triglycerides (blood fats). Garlic is also known to help lower high blood pressure, she says. Garlic aids in cancer prevention by raising the body’s level of glutathione transferase, a liver enzyme known to detoxify the body of carcinogens, says McQuade-Crawford. In China, researchers found gastric cancer was reduced where garlic intake was high. Other researchers have noted improved helper/suppressor ratios of T-cells in AIDS patients who take garlic. Proven to work against various micro-organisms including bacteria resistant to antibiotics, garlic is known to be antifungal and antiviral, she adds.
