Treating Hypertension ‘Naturally’ continued…

Schneider is conducting a study on the use of TM in the prevention of high blood pressure in African Americans (a population at significant risk for high blood pressure). The study is not yet complete, but preliminary evidence indicates that TM is useful for high blood pressure treatment and prevention, too.

Learning TM is not difficult, says Schneider, but it should be learned from a qualified instructor. “You need someone there to guide you, and to give you feedback,” he says. “Otherwise, you won’t get the full effect.” To find an instructor near you, call 1-888-LEARN-TM.

Blood Pressure

As the heart pumps blood through the arteries (large blood vessels), it pushes the blood against the arterial walls with a force that is measured as “blood pressure.” High blood pressure is defined as a reading above 140/90 mm Hg (systolic/diastolic). (Systolic pressure – the first number – measures the pressure in the arteries when the heart contracts. Diastolic pressure – the second number – measures the pressure in the arteries when the heart is relaxing between beats and filling with blood.) Research now suggests that “high-normal” blood pressure (130 to 139 over 85 to 89) can also raise risk of cardiovascular disease. Normal blood pressure is 120 to 129 over 80 to 84, and optimal blood pressure is less than 120 over 80. Excessive pressure makes the heart work harder, increasing its oxygen demands and contributing to angina, and can eventually lead to an enlarged heart (cardiomegaly), as well as damage to blood vessels in the kidneys and brain. Hypertension, therefore, increases the risk of heart attacks, stroke and kidney disease.

Hypertension is the most common form of cardiovascular disease in America, affecting about 50 million people – that’s close to one out of four adults. The good news is that hypertension is easy to detect, and can often be improved or controlled with natural remedies for high blood pressure and changes in diet and lifestyle.

Choosing the Best Blood Pressure Medication

If you are diagnosed with hypertension it is very important that you find the best blood pressure medication. When deciding on a possible treatment you might find it hard to choose something given to complexity of the condition and its associated symptoms, and also considering the wide variety of treatment alternatives. You might be tempted to choose the best blood pressure medication being advertised on television, but you must be aware that side-effects are always possible. Therefore you should always consult your doctor to determine which medicine will work best for you given the severity of your illness, your body constitution and other conditions that you might suffer from. Despite advertisements, it is very likely for a drug that works well on certain people to have little effect or to cause harm to other individuals.

Another factor that you have to consider is the fact that some medications will not work well in conjunction with other drugs. Even your doctor might find it hard to decide on what the best blood pressure medication is for you, so you should be an active part in the treatment process, you should sit down with your doctor, discuss your opinions, tell him about the effects that you’ve noticed and only then make a choice. There are plenty of alternatives so it is impossible not to find a blood pressure medication that is suitable for you.

What Is Blood Pressure?

Blood pressure is the force of blood against the walls of arteries. Blood pressure is recorded as two numbers—the systolic pressure (as the heart beats) over the diastolic pressure (as the heart relaxes between beats). The measurement is written one above or before the other, with the systolic number on top and the diastolic number on the bottom. For example, a blood pressure measurement of 120/80 mmHg (millimeters of mercury) is expressed verbally as “120 over 80.”

Low blood pressure or hypotension refers to the fall in blood pressure below normal. It is a condition in which the action of the heart, in forcing the blood through the arteries, is weak. This is a direct outcome of a weakened and devitalised system.

Low blood pressure symptoms Lethargy, weakness, dizziness The patient with chronic low blood pressure may complain of lethargy, weakness, fatigue, and dizziness. The patient may faint, especially if arterial pressure is lowered further when he assumes an erect position. These symptoms are presumably due to a decrease in perfusion of blood to the brain, heart, skeletal muscle, and other organs. Treat hypovolemic shocks with high blood pressure treatments. Control various blood pressures like systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure or orthostatic hypotension with blood pressure remedies. Adopt natural ways for lowering your blood pressure.
